Leg Repair: Creating a Mold
I love French Provincial style furniture and this one is super adorable. Once I started stripping all the paint I realized the right leg looked like it had been chewed up. It was missing its cute little swirl. Best way to fix this is by creating a mold of the good leg and using that to fix the broken one.
Supplies needed:
First,I lightly sanded and cleaned the area. Next, I sprayed the leg with the non-stick cooking spray, this helps the dried glue come off easier. Now it was time to apply the glue. I applied a thick layer of glue all over the area I wanted replicated, and made sure there were no holes.
Within several minutes the glue was hard and no longer hot, so I removed it and got my Mold!!!!! Before I started creating my Bondo mixture I sprayed the inside of the mold with non-stick cooking spray. This helps remove the mold easily from the bondo.
Next, I prepared my Bondo mixture. Bondo hardens very quickly so it's important to get the mixture made and onto the furniture within several minutes. I liberally placed the Bondo mix onto the leg. I put the mixture on thick so when I placed the mold over it I would have to scrap away the excess.
After the mold was set in place and the excess was scraped away I put the clamp over the mold to hold it in place. 30 minutes later I removed it all and TADAAAA!!! It came out perfectly!
